On Sunday 4 September, Electric Umbrella took part in Parallel London –  THE WORLD’S FIRST FULLY INCLUSIVE FUN PUSH/RUN & FAMILY FESTIVAL at the OLYMPIC PARK, LONDON!

25 of our members and friends of EU competed in the track events (100m 1k and 5k) wearing yellow EU t-shirts raising over £3500 for Electric Umbrella! In addition, EU then performed during the afternoon at the family festival, and ensured everyone was dancing by the end of our set.

It was a big deal for Electric Umbrella to be so visible and present alongside other significantly larger, older and national disability charities at such a huge event. We are extremely excited to be involved with Parallel London as the inclusive nature of the event fits in perfectly with the core values of Electric Umbrella, and we hope this will be the start of a great partnership.

This new, inclusive event brought everyone together in all our glorious diversity. First-timer and experienced athlete. Young and old.

One of our members was reunited with his electric wheelchair in anticipation of completing the 100m. An electric wheelchair that was locked in storage for the past five years believed to be too cumbersome for daily life. On Sunday, in this electric chair on the 100m course William told us he came alive. He will now use that chair every day. So many lives have been touched and so many memories made. We are all absolutely buzzing for being a part of it.

We were delighted to recently recognise Paul Gershlick, Partner at VWV Law Firm in Watford, with our Corporate Ambassador Award . Paul first introduced Electric Umbrella to VWV and their wider network after inviting us to perform online at their 2020 PING conference. Since then, a real friendship was struck and Paul, along with his team at VWV Watford, have gone above and beyond to support Electric Umbrella. Whether it’s having us return to perform at future conferences, supporting us with in-office charity events and lunches, or attending our shows, Paul and the VWV Watford team have bought into the Electric Umbrella way. In addition to VWV Watford making Electric Umbrella their office charity of the year for two years running, Paul personally volunteers on a weekly basis at our Big Yellow Choir, where he was presented with his award by our CEO Mel and choir member Ali, earlier this month.
