In November we had our first ever fundraising dinner - a spectacular evening, packed with performances, amazing music, dancing, roaring laughter and plenty of opportunities for guests to get involved!
Like every Electric Umbrella event, our members shone at centre stage - whether singing, dancing, playing in the band or MCing, they were all true rockstars.
As well as raising vital fund, we wanted to show guests just how incredible our community is, and highlight the positive impact being part of Electric Umbrella has.
Before the event, we worked with one of our longest standing members William to tell his story, through a film premiered on the evening.
When we first spoke to William about making this film an Electric Umbrella motto came up: “Just because I haven’t got a voice doesn’t mean I haven’t got something to say.” From that moment on we were on a mission to make sure his voice was heard:
Straight after William's Story was played to the audience, William took to the stage. Joined by Katie, Tom and the Electric Umbrella band they delivered a stunning rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You.” It’s safe to say that there wasn’t a dry eye in the room!
We want to thank William for sharing his story, it is an absolute privilege to be part of his journey.
Now, stories like William's wouldn't be possible without our amazing volunteers. Every week we rely on 220 hours of their support to run our programmes.
And so, the evening was made all the more special with the presentation of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service by our Patron Robert Voss, Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, accepted by committed volunteers Jen Good and Kate Kinsella.
In 2022 we were one of only 244 charities selected to receive the last of these prestigious awards. We are beaming with pride that volunteers, who are such an integral part of our community, have been recognised for their incredible efforts.
Thanks to generous pledges, auctions bids and raffle entries The Music in Me was a huge success, raising an incredible £50,000. Every penny will help us to create even more amazing music experiences with learning disabled people.
A special thank you to our Patron Robert Voss, Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire and to our sponsors and suppliers who made the evening possible: Micklefield Hall, White Production, LCH Production Services, Kalm Kitchen, Waverton Wealth, and Absolute Recruit.
